Cyclical Nature Draft

For this piece I've been playing with masks to create a surreal setting for my friend to walk through. The idea of self change can be interpreted in several ways, one is that she is leaving something behind and journeying to an unknown location.

  1. You've done a good job creating a feeling of journey and change in this image. It even feels a little uneasy, because your friend is in shadow while the sky around her is bright.

  2. the idea of a journey is really good. I think if you can manage to get some more depth in the picture that would be ideal. right now it seems a bit flat, and with more things that are farther away i think you can capture the journeying aspect even more. (great pictures too by the way!)

  3. I enjoy how the river flows and think it would be cool if there was more of an effect were the river was pouring over the edge. She almost looks like she's going to walk right off the edge and just sail into the sky.

  4. It looks great so far. It would be interesting if the sky came up through the bottom of the frame a little to make it seem as if your friend is suspended on a floating piece of land, because it already sort of feels like that is what's happening here.

  5. In addition to what was already said, I think expanding the canvas size and showing more surreal elements (even if its just more nature juxtaposed) surrounding your friend would heighten the overall atmosphere (no pun intended)

  6. I really like your image. I'm wondering what more you can do with this. I think adding more elements could make it more interesting. Maybe something like a pathway, or something in the sky?

  7. I agree that your friend walking near the shadow adds a nervous feeling which might help your idea of journey and change. It looks like she is walking toward the dark side of the forest. I think more detail and suggestion of a large area to travel would help your image.

  8. Hi Danielle

Nice start. presently it is not quite a composite and not quite an accurate representation of reality. it could go either way presently--layering with photoshop is still an option. maybe some of the links below will give you some ideas.

If it stays "real" (not composited) the leaves and trees are too soft next to the background right now. the image online is bitmapping horribly, probably due to the optimization for the web. remember to make it 72 dpt and then reduce the larger width or height number down to 9 inches (more or less) so it does not bitmap so badly. check your resolution before you get into the image in a big way (Image/Size in Photoshop)so you don't waste time on an image that is essentially low rez. maybe the clouds could also be fog and introduced into elements into the foreground to integrate it with the space better?

  9. I would accentuate the shadow of the girl, further explaining that she is leaving part of herself behind and venturing to unknown territory. There also seems to be an awkward gap between the trees, what could you do with that space? Or I would paint it back in with grass. I think the colors really need to be brightened so that the fantasy aspect chimes in a little more.
